Kentucky Derby Day — 7 May, Saturday, 2016 — Ladies, Wear Your Hats!

It is believed that wearing a hat during the Kentucky Derby brings good luck to your horse or jockey and to your bets. From the fantastic to the sublime, there are no rules or limits regarding what you wear. In the clubhouse and paddock and at Gauthier Vineyard, women of grace and style will be sporting classy, fashionable styles or whimsical creations during Derby Day activities. Friday Nights With Mike!

We are pleased to announce Gauthier Vineyard Winery will be open Friday’s from 4 – 8 PM beginning 2 January 2015. This opening is called “Friday Nights with Mike” because Michael Reed will be directing sales and services during that timeframe. Michael is well known within the local winery scene as an expert in most things viticulture. He has volunteered countless hours at festivals and behind the counter for several Virginia wineries and, of course, has been studying and tasting and evaluating wine for decades. Continue reading →

Mulled Wine is Here!

In the basic sense, mulled wine is a form of tea. Spiced and heated wine was first recorded in Rome in the second century AD. As the Romans conquered land and traded, they spread their wine and recipes to all of Europe. There are versions from throughout the world, but the most familiar model calls for cinnamon and cloves or nutmeg in wine and served warm during cold weather months. In the Netherlands, mulled wine is known as bisschopswijn. The French call it vin chaud. Continue reading →
